Video: James Cameron on BP

“Drastic measures” is our theme today in our discussion of the Gulf oil crisis. Many people, from average citizens to decorated scientists, are brainstorming all kinds of ideas. We heard more today on air.

James Cameron, bigfoot Hollywood director and sometime underwater explorer, made news with his comments about the oil spill yesterday at the D8 technology conference. Cameron said he had some friends who could help:

Over the last few weeks, as we all have, I’ve watched with growing horror and heartache, watching what’s happening in the Gulf, thinking, ‘Those morons don’t know what they’re doing,’ – of course, as we all do, watching what we’re getting in the media. And I thought, wait a minute, I know a lot of people in deep submergence…Yes, they don’t drill for oil, but they operate all kinds of vehicles, all kinds of electronic optical fiber systems, and have all the remote manipulators and so on. And most importantly they know the engineering that it requires…
